The Pipe organ at St Mary's was built
in 1910 by J W Walker and Sons at a cost of £1139 and has given
sterling service since its installation. Over the past year it has been dismantled and restored, but the money to restore it is still in too short supply. We still need to raise some money to pay for the refurbishment and for its regular tuning and maintainance

When the Walker organ was installed - before electricity was installed in the church - the organ was hand pumped. The organ was then modified later to have a electric blower. The great and swell manuals are connected to their resective pipes. The choir now can access either the swell of the great or a combination of the two. |
Musical Tradition
A church as old as St Mary's deserves an organ worthy of its traditions. People attending weddings, funerals, Christmas and Festival services expect the sound of the organ to match the spendour of their surroundings.
Music has always played an important part in the worship at St Mary's and we seek to maintain our own musical traditions where a robed choir leads the singing in our worship week by week. Besides choral services, St Mary's has always hosted concerts, plays and musical events. The restored organ is now a resource for students and organ enthusiasts. Lessons regualerly take place on the Walker organ.
